Custom Tailored
Custom mattresses are frequently tailored to more than one person. Sleep partners are typically of different sizes and weights, and often with different sleeping patterns or schedules. A custom mattress and indeed the whole bed can made to fit both partners, perfectly and uniquely for each.
Handmade mattresses and their underlying divans can be crafted in a zip-and-link style, or as a split-tension mattress, and both styles can be made as adjustable beds. No element of personal comfort is left out.
Custom tailoring for a bespoke product can easily take all the family into account, which may include the kids clambering on board of a morning, or the family pets through the night. A custom bed made larger than the standard size is the answer for the whole crew.
The Luxury Bed Collection can offer a handmade mattress and divan as large as 14 feet in both width and length—a magnificent expanse of bed, large enough that no one gets disturbed by another’s movement. Larger beds take suitable bedrooms to accommodate them, and our sleep experts take all this into account: there are plenty of sizes to match people and places.
Custom Fit
We offer some well established configurations for a custom bed and mattress, including the Florida King at 108 x 80 inches, which offers the standard king length, but with 9 feet of width. Other models offer shapes from long to square, and measurements from 80 inches to 144 inches. But each bed is custom-made, and the client’s needs are the true measurement—there can be numerous custom sizes for mattresses and beds, subject to every client’s choice.
Not only size but shape matters in some situations, such as fitting a custom mattress to a yacht or plane cabin, or to an RV or travel trailer. We have considerable experience in this area—the UK firm of Vispring is one of our select bedmakers, and the principal supplier for Princess Yachts and also Gulfstream luxury jets.

Sometimes, a client will purchase a model straight from our showroom floor—occasionally sight unseen, to furnish a guest room, but more often simply from falling in love with the feel of a particular bed. All the beds on our floor are handmade by our luxury bedmakers, and the quality is the same as any bespoke creation. Can you fall in love with the feel of mattress springs? When a custom mattress and bed are made to order, our initial consultations with a client explore lifestyle, sleep patterns, preferences, and place. Our sleep experts set forth an entire plan for a client to approve, one matching both the sleepers and their decor, from divan to headboard. And our curated accessories are on hand to complete the custom bed, selected from the world’s best linens, pillows, and other accessories.
Custom-ordered mattresses and beds are handcrafted by artisans in England or Sweden using natural materials as rare as horsetail hair, with completion generally taking two to three months. For those who wish to experience the difference sooner, our showroom carries pre-built luxury mattresses that can often be delivered within a couple of weeks.
Craftsmen in Europe, embodying generations of learned skill, will spend as many as 600 hours making your bed by hand. Layers of materials are hand-stitched into place, while each spring of a selected tension is nested individually in a pocket within the mattress and divan. If the mattress is a dual-tension style, then reinforcing stitching holds the two inner compartments in place.
The materials that go into a custom mattress are selected from horsetail hair, wool, cotton, silk, flax, cashmere, and angora. The springs are of four tensions, ranging from soft to firm, and are pocket-fitted according to the method developed and patented early last century by Vispring. Mass-produced beds typically contain a standard framework of springs for the body to adjust to, but a custom mattress and bed made by hand means that each spring is placed where it best belongs, to suit the body of the sleeper.
